Getting Started

What is QuickPic?

QuickPic is an iOS app that helps you compress photos and videos before sharing them. It reduces file sizes while maintaining visual quality, making your media faster to send and easier to store.

How do I get started?

1. Download QuickPic from the App Store 2. Grant photo access when prompted 3. Try compressing a photo using one of the preset options (Tiny, Balanced, or Crisp) 4. Share the compressed result

What devices are supported?

QuickPic requires iOS 17 or later and works on iPhone. iPad support is planned for future updates.

Core Features

What are Quick Presets?

Quick Presets are one-tap compression options: • Tiny: Maximum compression for quick sharing (text readable, ~50-150KB) • Balanced: Good quality with significant size reduction (~200-500KB) • Crisp: High quality with moderate compression (~600KB-1.5MB)

How do I compress photos?

1. Open QuickPic 2. Select photos from your library 3. Choose a preset (Tiny/Balanced/Crisp) or tap "Advanced" for custom settings 4. Preview the result and tap "Compress" 5. Share or save the compressed version

How do I compress videos?

1. Select videos from your library 2. Choose a video preset or use Advanced settings 3. Preview the compressed video 4. Tap "Compress" and share

What is the Advanced/Pro Sheet?

The Advanced sheet gives you full control over compression settings: • Resolution scaling • Quality/bitrate adjustment • Format selection (HEIC/JPEG for photos, H.264/HEVC for videos) • Metadata handling (keep/strip location data) • Multi-pass compression (photos only)

Can I compress multiple photos at once?

Yes! Select multiple photos and apply a preset to all of them. Batch compression shows progress for each item.

What is multi-pass compression?

Multi-pass compression applies compression multiple times (1-20 passes) to achieve better size reduction. Each pass further optimizes the image, though processing time increases.

iMessage Integration

How do I use QuickPic in Messages?

1. Open a conversation in Messages 2. Tap the QuickPic icon in the app drawer 3. Select photos/videos and choose a preset 4. Tap "Attach" to send the compressed media

Why don't I see QuickPic in Messages?

Make sure you've enabled the iMessage app: 1. Go to Settings > Messages > App Store 2. Find QuickPic and enable it 3. Pin it to your app drawer for easy access

Can I use QuickPic in group chats?

Yes! QuickPic works in any Messages conversation, including group chats.

Privacy & Security

Is my media uploaded to servers?

No! All compression happens on your device. Your photos and videos never leave your iPhone.

What happens to my original photos?

Your original photos remain untouched. QuickPic creates compressed copies without modifying the originals.

What about location data?

By default, location data is removed from compressed photos for privacy. You can choose to keep it in Advanced settings.

Can I see what metadata is being kept or removed?

Yes! The Advanced sheet shows exactly what metadata will be preserved or stripped.

Pro Features

What's included in the free version?

• Basic compression presets (Tiny, Balanced, Crisp) • Single photo compression • Basic compression history • iMessage integration

What do I get with Pro?

• Unlimited custom presets • Batch compression (up to 50 photos) • Video compression for videos over 60 seconds • Advanced controls (multi-pass compression) • Full compression history • Target-size compression • Priority support

How do I upgrade to Pro?

1. Open QuickPic 2. Tap "Upgrade to Pro" or access Pro features 3. Choose your subscription option (Monthly, Annual, or Lifetime) 4. Complete purchase through Apple's App Store

Can I try Pro features before buying?

Yes! Some Pro features may be available on a trial basis. Check the app for current trial offers.

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

1. Go to Settings in QuickPic 2. Tap "Restore Purchases" 3. Sign in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase

Troubleshooting

Compression is taking too long

• Try a lower quality preset • Reduce the number of multi-pass compression passes • Close other apps to free up memory • For large videos, consider using the main app instead of the iMessage extension

The compressed file is larger than the original

This can happen with already compressed images. QuickPic will automatically keep the original in these cases.

I can't access my photos

1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos 2. Find QuickPic and ensure it has access 3. Choose "All Photos" for full functionality

The app crashes when compressing large files

• Try compressing one file at a time • Use a lower quality preset • Ensure you have enough storage space • Restart the app and try again

My Pro features aren't working

1. Check your internet connection 2. Go to Settings > Restore Purchases 3. Ensure you're signed in with the correct Apple ID 4. Contact support if issues persist

File Formats & Compatibility

What file formats does QuickPic support?

Photos: HEIC, JPEG, PNG, ProRAW, HEIF Max Videos: H.264, HEVC, ProRes, HDR10, Dolby Vision

What formats does QuickPic output?

Photos: HEIC (preferred) or JPEG Videos: H.264 or HEVC

Will compressed files work everywhere?

Most modern apps and platforms support HEIC and HEVC. If you encounter compatibility issues, try the JPEG/H.264 format options in Advanced settings.

What about HDR photos and videos?

QuickPic can preserve HDR metadata (Crisp preset) or convert to standard dynamic range (Tiny/Balanced presets). The Advanced sheet lets you choose.

Storage & Performance

How much storage does QuickPic use?

QuickPic uses minimal storage for the app itself. Compressed files are saved to your Photos library and count toward your iCloud storage.

Does compression affect battery life?

Compression uses processing power, which can impact battery life during heavy use. The impact is similar to other photo processing apps.

Can I compress files to save iCloud storage?

Yes! Compressed files are smaller and use less iCloud storage. QuickPic shows you how much space you've saved.

Sharing & Export

How do I share compressed files?

After compression, you can: • Share directly to Messages, Mail, or other apps • Save to Photos library • Copy to clipboard • Save to Files app

Can I replace the original photo?

QuickPic doesn't replace originals by default to keep them safe. You can manually delete originals if desired, but we recommend keeping backups.

What about Live Photos?

QuickPic preserves Live Photos by default. You can choose to convert them to still images or short videos in Advanced settings.

Advanced Usage

How do I create custom presets?

1. Go to Settings > Custom Presets 2. Tap "Create New Preset" 3. Adjust resolution, quality, format, and metadata settings 4. Name and save your preset

What's the difference between HEIC and JPEG?

HEIC provides better compression and quality than JPEG but isn't supported everywhere. JPEG has broader compatibility.

How do I compress for specific platforms?

Use target-size compression in Pro: • Discord: Under 8MB • Email: Under 25MB • WhatsApp: Under 16MB

Can I compress screenshots differently?

Yes! Screenshots with text benefit from higher quality settings to maintain readability. Try the Balanced or Crisp preset for screenshots.
